What are Express Entry draws?

Express Entry draws — also called rounds of invitations — are events where Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invites candidates from the Express Entry pool to apply for permanent residence. Candidates are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Those with scores at or above the draw cut-off (and who meet the round type rules) receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Before you worry about draw cut-offs, confirm you qualify for at least one federal program with our Express Entry Eligibility Checker. Then estimate your ranking score with the CRS Score Calculator.

How to read this draw results table

  • Draw # — The sequential round number published by IRCC (higher numbers are more recent).
  • Date — When IRCC held the round of invitations.
  • Category — The program or category targeted (e.g. all programs, Canadian Experience Class, Provincial Nominee Program, French language, healthcare, STEM, trades).
  • CRS cut-off — The lowest Comprehensive Ranking System score among candidates invited in that round.
  • Invitations — How many ITAs IRCC issued in that draw.

Types of Express Entry draws in 2026

IRCC runs different round types throughout the year. Cut-off scores vary widely depending on who is being invited.

Draw typeWho is invitedTypical CRS range*
General (all programs)Top candidates across FSW, CEC, and FST in the poolOften ~480–530+
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)Candidates with eligible Canadian work experienceVaries; sometimes lower than general draws
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)Express Entry candidates with a provincial nominationOften 700+ (nomination adds 600 CRS points)
Category-basedFrench proficiency, healthcare, STEM, trades, transport, agriculture, etc.Often lower than general — depends on category

*Ranges are historical guides only. Each draw is unique — always check the latest cut-off above.

Why Express Entry cut-off scores change

CRS cut-offs are not fixed. They move up or down based on how many ITAs IRCC wants to issue, which program or category is targeted, and how competitive the pool is that week. A large draw with many invitations may have a lower cut-off than a small, highly competitive round.

If your score is below the latest general draw, you can often improve it through stronger language results (CLB Converter), education, more work experience, a valid job offer, or a provincial nomination worth 600 additional CRS points.

How often does IRCC hold Express Entry draws?

IRCC typically holds rounds of invitations every one to two weeks, but the schedule is not guaranteed. Some weeks see multiple draws (for example a general draw and a category-based draw). Other periods may have pauses. Bookmark this page or check back after major immigration policy announcements.

What to do after you receive an ITA

An Invitation to Apply is not permanent residence. You usually have 60 days to submit a complete application with supporting documents, police certificates, medical exams, and proof of funds where required. Make sure your Express Entry profile stays accurate — misrepresentation can lead to refusal or a ban.

Use our NOC Finder to confirm your occupation code matches your duties, especially for category-based draws that target specific occupations.

How to use this page in your immigration plan

1

Check the latest draw cut-off

Look at the most recent general or category-based draw that applies to your situation. Note the CRS score and how many ITAs were issued.

2

Calculate your CRS score

Run the CRS calculator with your real language test results, education, and work history. Compare your score to the cut-off with a realistic buffer.

3

Explore PNP or category pathways

If you are below the general cut-off, see whether you qualify for targeted draws or a provincial stream that adds 600 CRS points.

4

Improve weak factors and re-test

Language is often the fastest CRS gain. Retaking IELTS or CELPIP, or adding French, can move you into competitive range within months.

Express Entry Draws – Frequently Asked Questions

Draw data is synced automatically from the official IRCC JSON feed several times per hour. New federal rounds usually appear shortly after IRCC publishes them.
There is no single minimum CRS for all draws. General draws often have cut-offs in roughly the 480–530 range, but category-based or French-language draws may invite candidates with lower scores. Your target score depends on the round type you qualify for.
General draws invite top-ranked candidates across standard Express Entry programs. Category-based draws target specific policy goals — such as French speakers, healthcare workers, or STEM occupations — and often have different cut-offs.
Provincial Nominee Program draws invite candidates who already have an Express Entry–linked provincial nomination. That nomination adds 600 CRS points, so cut-offs appear very high compared with general draws.
Not necessarily. Many candidates wait through multiple draws while improving language scores or securing provincial nominations. Your profile remains valid for 12 months before it expires, subject to IRCC rules.
Data is sourced from IRCC’s published draw feed and displayed for educational purposes. Always confirm critical decisions on canada.ca or with a qualified immigration professional.
Check this page after IRCC announcements, follow reputable immigration news sources, or subscribe to our site newsletter if available. The table above always shows the newest rounds first.
Historic trends help you understand the range of possible cut-offs, but IRCC does not publish future scores in advance. Pool size, policy priorities, and invitation targets all affect the next round.
